Prepare for the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification
Module 0 · Choosing Your Certification · Lesson 1 of 1
0.0.1 · Module overview
Module overview. A Lean Six Sigma certification costs time, money and energy. Many learners start without having answered three simple questions: which belt, which proof, which body? They then discover that the exam is in English, that the target employer does not know their certificate, or that the budget made no allowance for a retake. Module 0 treats your preparation as a small project, using the reflexes of the method you are about to learn. The parallel is direct. Choosing the belt and the certification body is like defining the project (objective, scope, constraints). The starting diagnostic is your initial measurement. The error log is used to analyse the causes of your failures. Spaced revision and mock exams are your improvement. The calendar and the contingency plan are your control. If you can plan that project, you can plan an improvement project in a company. Common thread of the module. Nadège is an assistant quality manager in a cashew-nut processing plant in Parakou. Her group also has a site in Côte d'Ivoire, and she would like to apply there for a quality manager position. She hesitates between three routes, has to persuade her management to pay part of the cost, and lives with power cuts and an unreliable connection. We follow her decisions from lesson 0.1 to lesson 0.3. The three lessons follow one another like this. Lesson 0.1 teaches you to read the landscape: belts, proofs, certification bodies, body of knowledge, warning signs, link with the ISO 9001 standard. Lesson 0.2 turns that landscape into a decision: weighted matrix, budget, calendar, negotiation, exam logistics and contingency plan. Lesson 0.3 organises learning itself: diagnostic, error log, spaced repetition, practice modes, project portfolio, exam technique and English vocabulary. End-of-module questions. You should be able to answer the following seven questions, in writing and with figures. Which belt are you aiming for, and why not the previous or the next one? What proof does your employer or client expect: knowledge or results? Which body or provider, and how did you verify it? How much does it cost in CFA francs, contingency included, and who pays what? How many hours per week, and what is your arrival week? What will you do if the power or the connection fails on exam day? How will you know, in week 6, that you are making progress? Module learning outcomes. - Distinguish the five belts and the steering roles (Sponsor, Champion, process owner). - Compare a knowledge certification with a competence certification, and say what each one proves. - Convert a body of knowledge into a prioritised revision checklist. - Apply a grid of warning signs to a training provider and explain the link between Lean Six Sigma and ISO 9001. - Build a weighted decision matrix, a budget in CFA francs with formulas and a study calendar with a margin. - Prepare a request for employer support and a contingency plan for exam logistics. - Keep an error log and a spaced-revision calendar (days 1, 3, 7, 14, 30). - Apply an exam technique (elimination, time budget, spotting trap words) and read 40 English exam phrases.
